How Serious Do You Take Your Health?

We all say we want to be fit and healthy….

We all say we want our children to be fit and healthy..

Are you ready to improve your health and well being?

After Emma was born, I spent approximately 7 months between a mother/baby unit and a psychiatric ward with severe postnatal depression.  I had numerous types of treatment to pretty much save my life as mentally all I could think about was ending my life.  It was during this time that I was taught a lot about taking a holistic approach to my health and well being.

A holistic approach “is a form of healing that considers the whole person — body, mind, spirit, and emotions — in the quest for optimal health and wellness. According to the holistic medicine philosophy, one can achieve optimal health — the primary goal of holistic medicine practice — by gaining proper balance in life.

Holistic medicine practitioners believe that the whole person is made up of interdependent parts and if one part is not working properly, all the other parts will be affected. In this way, if people have imbalances (physical, emotional, or spiritual) in their lives, it can negatively affect their overall health.

Essential Oils

Even though I was I was attempting to look after my nutrition, exercise, personal development and did me time activities, I knew that life could still be better.  I knew my health and body functions could be improved (mind you I also knew I had to remain consistent in the other areas which I am probably not the best at) but I did not have the answer on how to make it better.

I met the lovely Jo from Melbourne Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapies and she has slowly introduced me to some amazing therapies.  My eyes were totally opened when she did a foot detox on me.  You should see what crap comes out of your body.  It was a massive wake up call to say the least.  She told me how her husband, who is a mechanic, did one and metal filings were coming out.  If you use tin foil, this will come out from your foot.

She was talking to me off and on about using essential oils but honestly I rolled my eyes and thought what a crock.  I had used essential oils before (ok purchased at the health food shop) with no massive improvement.  She convinced me to have an Aromatouch Massage done and

I was astounded on how amazing my body felt in only an hour AromaTouch.

Essential oils do not prevent, treat or cure illnesses or disease.  I would never tell a client to stop taking medication and I would always give them what information that I can to give to their drs.

Essential oils, the pure essence, of the plant have been found to provide both psychological and physical benefits when used correctly and safely.  In Kayla Fioravanti, Fioravanti, The Art & Science of Aromatherapy: Your Guide for Personal Aromatherapy, she illustrates how the human body uses essential oils.

‘The human body takes the most vital properties of appropriately applied essential oils, and it uses those properties to bring itself into balance and into a healthier state without side effects. After the essential oils perform their healing functions they are metabolized and eliminated with the body’s other waste. With skin being our largest elimination organ, most essential oils that are absorbed by the skin can be detected in exhaled air within 20 to 60 minutes (Katz 1947). Elimination of essential oils through saliva, urine, feces or sweat in a healthy adult body can take anywhere from 20 minutes to 26 hours. In an unhealthy adult, it can take up to 14 hours for the essential oils to pass through the body’s systems’.

I read a question once with the reflection on the number of natural disasters, which can occur at anytime, but:

  • What would you do if you and your family were cut off from medical assistance? 
  • What would you do if you couldn’t get to a chemist or to a hospital? 
  • What would you do if the hospitals were not operating? 

These are serious questions and believe me they do happen all the time.  By learning about essential oils and how you can implement them into your families life, you will have a solution to cover your family.  I love when my children or husband have a temporary issue within the body and I can provide them with an essential oil which can relieve the temporary issue quickly especially when it is in the middle of the night.

Nutrition

There is so much information about nutrition out there.  I am not qualified to give information about nutrition but I know that there are a lot of fads, diets out there and you have to be careful.  However what I do know is if you are pumping your body day in and day out with processed, preservative and additive filled, chemicals and toxins, you can pretty much expect that your body would not be functioning at optimal level.  You would also expect that you would also be battling through a illness, disease and mental illnesses.
This is the current Australian Food Pyramid that gives you a general ideas of which foods to focus on and which foods to limit.

In my own healthy eating approach is by seeing it as long term.  There is such a need these days for the quick fix and research does show that short term weight loss does not mean long term.  If you see healthy eating as long term habit, you will be nurturing your body and helping your body to work at optimal level.

Exercise
Recommended daily exercise is 30 minutes per day.  I always encourage clients to make sure that they do exercise that they enjoy but you need to get your heart rate up.

The benefits of exercise are:

  • helps control weight
  • Combats health conditions and disease
  • Improves mood
  • Boosts energy
  • Promotes better sleep
  • Puts a spark back into your sex life
  • Can be fun

Personal Development
 If you think personal development is only focusing on learning about yourself and increasing self awareness……………think again.

The majority of the people who actively seek to develop themselves, whether it is through reading one book per month, or learning a new type of sport each year, all of them can profit from these long-term benefits.

The thing is, people often “discover” those benefits, only when they start the journey. I wish someone had told me earlier about some of the positive aspects. I would have started to work on myself a little earlier!

We all have dreams which are not just about a career and by focusing on personal development you will be able to reach your dreams in all the other fascists in your life.

Personal Time
Do you take a minimum of 10 minutes a day to do something for you?  If your answer is no then you need to structure it in.  You can not possibly think that you are function 100% in mind, body and spirit.

There is no need to feel guilty about doing this either because we all need to recharge the batteries. I always say to all my clients as it includes everyone that children need well mums and dads and to have a well mum and dad we need to recharge the batteries.
